William Martin Murray Jr. 72, of Housatonic, MA died Wednesday October 9, 2019 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. William was born on September 8, 1947 in Great Barrington son of William Martin Sr. and Antoinette Mary (Wool) Murray. He was a 1965 graduate from the former Searles High School and went on to graduate from UMass with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1970. William was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish. William is survived by one sister, Mary-Anne Murray of Great Barrington, sister-in-law, Barbara Murray of Hurst, TX, brother-in-law, William L. Capocci Jr. of Whitman MA, two nephews, Joel Thomas (Kelly) Murray, and William L. (Amy) Capocci III and four nieces, Kimberly (Dave) Capocci Corbett, Anne-Marie (Cary) Lofton, Carolyn M. Murray and Katherine M. Murray. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by one brother, John Patrick Murray and one sister, Jo-Anne Capocci.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1970, Bill moved to California.  He worked at a CPA firm in Santa Monica, CA.  Returning to MA in 1976, he worked as a town auditor for the State of Massachusetts.  In the early 1980’s, Bill lived in Carson City, Nevada.  He was a Medicare auditor for Aetna Ins.  After leaving Nevada, he lived in Kingston, NY and worked as an accountant for a nursing home. Then, in the 1990’s he returned to MA and worked as an accountant for the Town of Lanesborough.  Before retiring in 2009, he worked at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA.  Though he loved golfing, fishing with his small boat on local lakes, watching the Red Sox and Patriot’s games, he enjoyed family picnics and celebrations.

A Funeral Mass for William was held on Friday October 18 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial followed in St Bridget’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Corpus Christi Restoration Fund in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St. Great Barrington MA, 01230.
