Obituary of Sabina Maria Ullrich

Sabina M. Ullrich 88, formerly of Sheffield, MA, died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Geer Nursing and Rehab Center, North Canaan, CT. She was born in Great Barrington on September 21, 1930, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Jozefa Harubin Palivoda. She attended local schools and was a 1948 graduate of the former Searles High School. She also took computer courses at Berkshire Community College. Sabina worked as a secretary at Mount Everett High School for 25 years retiring in 1990, she also worked in the Registry of Deeds in Great Barrington from 1948-1955. Her husband George V. Sr. whom she married on October 3, 1954 in the former All Saints Church Housatonic, predeceased her on August 9, 1995.  She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield. She was a member of over 50 years and a past president of its Women’s Club. Sabina was a watercolor artist with some paintings hanging at the former Limey’s in Sheffield. She was a charter member of the Sheffield Garden Club, the Thursday Morning Club, a past member of the Sheffield Historical Society, and an honorary member of the Sheffield Kiwanis and a Cub Scout den mother in Sheffield. Since 1996 Sabina spent her winters in Daytona Beach where she attended the Daytona Art League. She leaves three sons all of Sheffield, George V. Jr. and his partner Sandra Holst Grubbe, Joseph P. and his wife Brenda, and Stephen K. and his wife Judy, five grandchildren Krista, Rachel, Victoria, Stephen C., and Cassie, and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Mason.  Besides her parents and husband, Sabina was predeceased by two brothers Stephen and Joseph John Palivoda, one sister Victoria Wincek, and one grandson Ryan W. Ullrich.

Funeral services for Sabina Maria Ullrich who died December 28, will be held on Friday January 4, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Church, with the reverend Peter Naravjo, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday January 3, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers family requests that expressions of sympathy in Sabina’s memory may be made to the Sheffield Kiwanis in care of the funeral home at 33 South Street Great Barrington, MA. 01230.
