Obituary of Margaret “Babe” Moran

Margaret Moran

Margaret Rose (“Babe”) Moran passed away at 90 years old on Dec. 7, 2024 at Fairview Hospital. Her children, grandchildren, Sister, extended family and amazing Fairview Hospital staff surrounded her with Loving care.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1934 and raised in Great Barrington, by the late George and Eva McGuire.  Margaret graduated from Searles High School and continued her education at St. Lukes College to become a dedicated Registered Nurse. She created wonderful friendships there, that have lasted her entire life. She often took vacations and traveled with the “St. Luke’s ladies” until late into her life.

She met the late John E. Moran in High School and they quickly became “high school sweethearts” and were the King and Queen of their prom.  They were married on July 19, 1958, and went on to create a family of 6 children and Margaret spent much of her life as a wonderful stay-at-home mom.  She became a single Mother after the sudden passing of her beloved husband John Moran in 1976. She dedicated her life to her children.  She moved back to Great Barrington, MA in 1983 after her youngest twins graduated from High School in New Jersey, and returned to work at Fairview Hospital for the next 25 years. She was very involved in St. Peters Catholic Church in Great Barrington and was a member of the Thursday night group and assisted in many ways.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to places like Italy, Ireland, Mexico and Puerto Rico. She was always a part of family summer vacations to Cape Cod and the Jersey shore with her children and grandchildren. She adored her children and family, and was a precious part of her 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grand children’s lives.  She will be profoundly missed by all of them.

  1. Moe, Kathy, Tony, and all the rest of this beautiful family – so sorry to learn of Miss Margaret’s passing. May your hearts hold treasured memories and sweet thoughts of happy times. When the tears subside and the heartache dulls, wonderful flashbacks will fill you with joy for having such a magnificent mom (all her other titles too). You’ll remember how to smile and she’ll love seeing that from her Heavenly home. Love you all.

  2. I worked with your mother for many years.I was remembering back on all the Christmas luncheons and get togethers we used to go to.She will be greatly missed.

  3. Margaret was one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. We shared a lot of laughs in the decades that I’d known her, you could always count on her saying that one thing out of the blue that made you laugh so hard. She will be missed so much. My heart goes out to her wonderful family. I hope the good times that you’ve had and all the memories you’ve shared help bring you peace during this time. I’m sending you love and prayers for strength.
