Obituary of John H. Weiland III

John H. Weiland III, 77 of Great Barrington died Monday September 6, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Houston TX on March 18, 1944, son of John H. Jr. and Alice (Carter) Weiland. John attended schools in New York state graduating from Millbrook High School in 1962.Before serving in the Military John learned to fly in small planes. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was a helicopter mechanic during the Viet Nam Era in Germany. John graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo College in CA in the 1970’s. John worked for many years as a Salesman selling farm equipment. After moving to Great Barrington he established an Office Supply Company for a few years. John enjoyed reading, especially James Patterson books, boating and classic cars. John is survived by his wife, Clarice (Gilfillan-Kahlstrom) Weiland, three sons, Mark Weiland, Jeffrey Weiland (Casey) and William Weiland, one daughter Brenda Weiland Le (Peter). He is also survived by his former wife Bonita (Sherlock) Weiland of Housatonic, one brother, Arthur Weiland (Phillippa), three step children, Edgar L. Kahlstrom Jr. (Linda), Jack Kahlstrom (Doreen) and Lucinda Kahlstrom-Race (Rick), eight grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

At the request of the family services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St. Great Barrington MA 01230. Condolences may be made through

  1. John Weiland was my former father-in-law. He was a very sweet man always very kind to me and always had a smile on his face when he saw me. I enjoyed his presence & conversation. My sympathies to the family. I know he will be greatly missed. My prayers to John and family
