Obituary of Joan Webster Hall

Joan Hall

Joan Dorothea Webster Hall passed away December 21, 2014 in North Granby CT. She was born in Great Barrington, MA on January 1, 1934 to Edna Marie Sauer Webster and Theodore Dawson Webster.
She graduated from Searle High School in Great Barrington and after graduation attended one year at Smith College
In 1954, she married Donald George Hall, also of Great Barrington. They moved to Fort Bragg, NC so Donald could complete his Army ROTC military obligation. Upon his discharge, they settled in Suffield, CT and raised five children.
Joan found time to return to Smith College to finish her undergraduate degree. Upon graduation, she worked for the Connecticut Valley Girl Scout Council in Hartford, where she reached the level of Assistant Executive Director during her twenty-year service.
Joan continued her studies, enrolling at the UCONN School of Social Work where she earned her MSW in 1973. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker she served her clients in private practice for thirty years. She was divorced in 1983 and moved to Hartford, CT.
In 1984, Joan was voted Social Worker of the Year for the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She served as a board member for the NASW and American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work.
Joan travelled extensively, was an accomplished pianist and for many years she was a Guild Member of the Metropolitan Opera, NYC, and enjoyed bringing family and friends whenever she could.
Her love of flying would take her all over New England and she often stated that flying gave her the greatest sense of accomplishment and joy.
She is survived by two brothers Ronald B. Webster of Somers, CT, William H. Webster III of Edgartown, MA.
In addition she leaves her five children; son Bruce D. Hall and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Thornhill) Hall of Agawam MA, daughter Sally Hall Pallatto and son-in-law Anthony Pallatto of North Haven, CT, daughter Jennifer A. Hall of Springfield, MA, son Jonathan A. Hall and daughter-in-law Suzanne (Kelsey) Hall of North Granby, CT and son Dwight L. Hall and daughter-in-law Jamie Risley-Hall of Springfield, MA. She leaves seven grandchildren, Emily S. Hall, Jedidiah P. Hall, Mary S. (Pallatto) Maine, Jared K. Hall, Samuel W. Hall, Christopher J. Hall and Lindsay A. (Hall) McCrea. She also leaves two step grandchildren, Matthew T. and Mary S. W. Risley.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am January 31st, 2015 at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, CT. Interment will be private.
