James A. Karpinski , 64 of Great Barrington died August 8, 2017 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. James was born in Great Barrington on August 9, 1952 son of Peter and Theresa (Cote’) Karpinski. He was a graduate from Monument Mountain Regional High School class of 1970. After high school James proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. James worked for many years as a serviceman for the now Time Warner Cable and most recently a parts delivery driver for Napa Auto Parts in Great Barrington. James frequented the James A. Modolo Post #8348, enjoyed participating in the shoots at the Great Barrington Fish and Game, playing horseshoes, attending his children’s sporting events as they grew up and was an avid Red Sox fan.  During his year of treatment you would find him either watching a game or doing a jigsaw puzzle. James is survived by his son, Jared Karpinski of Great Barrington, his daughter , Tess Karpinski and companion Sean Sermini of Great Barrington, his brother Paul Karpinski and Wife Sharon of New Durham , N.H., his sister Joann Garzone of Pittsfield, his former wife Victoria ( Oppelt ) Karpinski and many nieces and nephews.

Burial with Military Honors will be private. A celebration of life for James A. Karpinski will be held on Saturday August 12th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the James A. Modolo Post # 8348 in Great Barrington. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.

  1. Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of your father, brother, uncle, friend and former husband. I will always remember the fun filled times we shared with him and Vicky during our younger years both in Great Barrington and Connecticut, He had a great laugh and spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with all who loved hiim, especially his children. May you always feel his presence and love and share memories of him to help ease your sorrow.

  2. My dearest Tess and Jared, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I know that you have been going through a difficult time with his illness for quite some time now. I hope the fact that he is no longer suffering and at peace gives you some consolation. I know that the loss of a parent takes time but I am no doubt you both will heal.
