Obituary of Barbara A. (Johnson) Higgins

Barbara A. Johnson Higgins, 72, of Great Barrington passed away Wednesday October 20, at BMC in Pittsfield. Born on September 11, 1949 in Fall River MA., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Eleanor Mosley Johnson. A longtime resident of Great Barrington she was educated in Fall River and was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Everett Regional High School She studied nursing at Berkshire Community College and worked as a home health aide for the VNA. She was predeceased by her brothers Elmer and Lawrence. She leaves her husband of 53 years Edward Higgins and their three sons: Randall and his wife Melissa of Housatonic, Daniel of Great Barrington and Jason and his wife Jaime of New Marlborough.

Barbara was the proud grandmother of four granddaughters: Stephanie, Hailey, Evi and Josephine and six grandsons: Ryan, Jack, Ty, Mark, Cal and Benjamin. She lived to love many animal companions including Beau, Pye, Charlie, Willie, Jesse, Tate and Buddy. Barbara was known for her infectious laugh, her generosity, and her caring nature, She filled her home with warmth and laughter and it became the source of comfort( and chocolate chip cookies!) for all that knew her. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed filled trips to Saratoga. She will be missed by all.

 

Funeral services for Barbara A. Johnson Higgins, who died October 20, will be held on Saturday October 23,at 10:00 AM in St Peter’s Church with the Reverend William P. Murphy pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery. Family will receive friends at a calling hour at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home from 8:30-9:30AM preceeding the funeral. In lieu of flowers family requests that expressions of sympathy in Barbara’s memory may be made to Berkshire Humane Society or to the Parkinsons Foundation in care of the funeral home at 33 South Street Great Barrington,MA. 01230.   1. The last time I saw Barbara was at the Saratoga Casino. She was sitting at a slot machine. I always enjoyed seeing her. She was always happy and smiled.

  5. I was friends with Barb since high school She always had the perfect flip in her beautiful blonde! hair! We used to FaceTime and I will miss that. We were “ good “ girls but we had a lot of laughs! She loved her kids and grandkids and will really be missed. Love ❤️ you Barb and God Bless now you’ll have no pain
