Avery Eugene Wingo, born May 10, 1946 in St. Louis Missouri passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Great Barrington Massachusetts on January 1, 2020. Having lived in the Berkshires since 1985, Avery is well known and loved throughout the community by all who met him. He was a carpenter and a mason, and much of his work can be seen throughout the area. He had a wonderful singing voice and loved music, fishing and the outdoors, woodworking in the shop with his great friend Ed Domaney, and he loved to barbeque. His ribs were legendary! Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends and was always there at the drop of a hat for anyone who needed him.

He is preceded in death by his son; Firman, siblings; Ella, Loyd, Cletus, and Geroid; parents Wilma and Clifford; and his grandparents who raised him, Richard and Avie James.

Avery is survived by his wife Susan Wingo of 47 years; his children Juanetta Gordon, Donna Carter, Kevin Robinson, Alecia Wingo, Angelene Wingo-Thompson and James Thompson, Avery Reginald Wingo, Jamesia Bingham, Gabriel Gordon; his grandchildren Sadie McManus, Kiah McManus, Athena Wingo, Archer Wingo, Addison Viarengo, Jessica Dow, Brian Dow, Jamison DeBerry, Angelisa DeBerry, Lacey Corbett, Taylor Robinson, Andrea Robinson, Colin Robinson, Nathan Robinson, his best friend Great Granddaughter Ilyana Avery DeBerry, and many other great grandchildren, two nieces Lois and Tina and one nephew Dwayne.

His wake is open to the public and will be held on Saturday January 11th, 2020 from 2pm-4pm at Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA, 413-528-3080. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.
