Obituary of Agnes Gertrude Walker

Agnes G. Walker 96 of Great Barrington, died Thursday March 12, 2020 at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Housatonic on March 21, 1923 daughter of Dewey and Frances Murphy Hayden. She attended local schools and was a 1941 graduate of the former Searles High School. She married her husband Robert W. Walker on December 6, 1942; he predeceased her on January 4, 1999. Agnes worked at the former Jennifer House as a Seamstress. She was a 4-H leader and sewed many years for her church bazaar. She taught many women to sew through the Adult Education Program at Monument Mountain High School. Agnes made quilts. Each of her children, grandchildren and some of her great grandchildren cherish an example of her work.  She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, St Teresa of Calcutta Parish and a former communicant of St. Peter Church. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Club, and was the Club’s liaison with Operation Smile for which she worked tirelessly.  She enjoyed going to the Great Barrington Senior Center. Agnes leaves 4 daughters Margaret Lavalette of Alford, Melissa Howe (Donald), of Great Barrington, Laurie Mead (Bob) of Lee, and Julia Walker of Pittsfield, 10 grandchildren Joel Howe, Aimee Danley, Charlie O. Walker, William Lavalette, Marc Lavalette, Jesse Mead, James Mead, Rebecca Brazee, Jennifer Henry, and Robert Mead Jr., 20 great grandchildren, Sydney, Audrey, Caroline, August, Walker, Quinn, Miranda, Shelby, Sam, Codey, Jared, Hunter, Joshua, Leah, Emma, Alexander, Rachel, Daniel, Cynthia, and Bradley. Besides her husband Robert, Agnes was predeceased by 4 brothers, John, Marshall, George, and C.M. Hayden, 1 sister Theresa, and 1 grandson Joshua Mead.

It is with deepest regret that the funeral services for Agnes G. Walker will be private out of concern for the health and safety of her friends and family due to the threat of Coronavirus. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Agnes’ memory may be made to the Thursday Morning Club in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St. Great Barrington MA 01230.   1. So very sorry for your loss. Aunt Agnes was a very lovely person, always willing to help where ever needed. Thanks to her I learned to sew, and she was so patient. Love her always. Robert and Julia Hayden.
