Obituary of Martha Rose Eichstedt

Martha Rose Eichstedt, 78, of New Marlborough died Sunday September 3, 2017 at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Martha was born in Great Barrington on August 5, 1939 daughter of Arthur and Mary (Dallava) Stehlin. Martha worked for many years as a school bus aide for Bachetti’s and Ormsbee Bus Company and a chamber maid at the Lamplighter Hotel. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting and writing poetry. Martha was a communicant of Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of the Valley. Martha’s husband Herbert W. Eichstedt Jr. predeceased her on May 6, 2015. Martha is survived by four sons, James Eichstedt of CT, Herbert W. Eichstedt III and wife Louise of Mill River, Brian L. Eichstedt Sr. and wife Bonnie of Durham NC and Paul Eichstedt of Ashley Falls, sister Barbara Gardner of AZ, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Herbert W. Eichstedt Jr. Martha was predeceased by her twin sister Mary Seelig.

Graveside services for Martha Eichstedt will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 at 11:30 AM in Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating.   1. I will miss Martha. She was fun and always a welcome visitor at Town Hall. I know you missed Herb and hope you are reunited with him. RIP you’ll be missed.

  2. So sorry for your loss. Martha was a hoot. She & I would talk about everything and anything. When I worked at the post office, she would visit and we’d always find something to laugh about. She had a good heart, and so loved her husband. She is now at peace. God Speed.
    Take comfort in knowing she touched many lives.

  3. My Blessing goes out to the family I first met Martha when she became an aide on my bus she loved all the children and everyday she made each child feel special. Martha loved to laugh and make other people laugh with her . She missed the love of her life and I believe God looked around and
    found an empty place in his garden and took her home to be with Herb. I am sure she is now making others laugh like she always made me God Bless You Martha.
