Obituary of Arthur Melvin Korte

Arthur Melvin Korte passed away on Tuesday February 6th, 2018 at his daughter’s home in South Annville, PA.

Arthur was born in West Stockbridge on December 30, 1929, son of John and Marjorie (Rushbrook) Korte. Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He trained in Alabama before being stationed in France. After his time in the Army he owned a gas station, and then worked for Marchetto Trucking followed by J.H. Maxymillian in Lansborough where he retired from. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and the Red Sox. He was famous for his pies that he would make on a weekly basis.

Arthur’s wife Christine who he married on May 19, 1951 predeceased him on May 4th, 2009. Arthur is survived by his two daughters Lisa (Louis) Caputzal of South Annville, PA and Andrea (Bill Hoag) of  Hillsdale, NY and a son James (Rose Seward) of Ashley Falls, 3 grandchildren Carrie (James) Gilles, Caitlin and Kimberly Caputzal, and one great-grandson Trevor Gilles. Two brothers John Jr and Robert, and two sisters Catherine Kilmer and Mary Kinman, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his brother William and sisters Marjorie, Sarah, and Gladys who passed in infancy.

Family will receive friends on Friday February 16th from 4 PM to 6 PM and Saturday February 17th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South Street Great Barrington MA 01230. Service will start at 10:30 AM with Reverend Belle Fox Martin officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, James A. Modolo Post #8183, or Masonic Village Hospice in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through
